Hello, how are you? I was curious do you know anything about the machines that we use in a doctors office? For example an xray?
Xrays are a type of electromagnetic radiation same thing as visible light. The big difference is that doctors can look past the skin to create shadow like images inside the body, for example bones!
Yes we do use radiation in the medical field. Xrays are just one of the many tools that doctors use in the medical field that use radation
77 years after the x-ray was invented came along the Computerized tomography or the CT scan in 1972. It combines a bunch of X-rays taken at different angles and puts them together creating cross sectional images of bones or tissues usually used for checking for internal injury
Not to long after that the Positron Emission Tomography or pet scan was created in the 1990's. The PET scan is a type of imaging test that allows doctors to see how the tissues and organs in your bodies are functioning.
Another way we use radiation in the medical field is through chemotherapy or more specifically radiation therapy. What they do is use special equipment with high dosages of radiation at the cancer cells allowing them to break the small DNA within the cell.
