World War 1 trenches were dirty, smelly and riddled with disease. For soldiers life in the trenches meant living in fear. In fear of diseases (like cholera and trench foot) and of course, the constant fear of enemy attack.No one was safe from war.
World War I began in 1914, and lasted until 1918. During the conflict, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire (the Central Powers) fought against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and the United States (the Allied Powers).
Diseases were a big problem in WW1 due to the fact that there was little medicine and medical knowledge. Diseases such as influenza, typhoid, trench foot, trench fever, malaria and diabetes were present during the war. Caused by exposure to wet and damp conditions
