Storyboard Text

  • Hi my Son! Im so glad you're home but I have some bad news.
  • Mom, I'm home! Why is everyone home shouldn't they be at work?
  • Our economy is having trouble supporting all the soldiers coming back from work, I've been relieved from my factory job
  • I know, there is 200,000 Canadians jobless, the Soldiers' Civil Re-Establishment is trying to help
  • Does that mean I'm not going to be able to find a job? How am I supposed to support the family?
  • They also are developing a pension plan but not all veterans are eligible, people are very upset.
  • Yes, many veterans are mad, telling the government they deserve more.
  • So people who are mentally or physically disabled aren't eligible?
  • I believe they are going to end up going on strike, demanding a bonus or something.
  • We all are, anyways I made your favourite pie, come inside.
  • I'd take part in that for sure, this is unbelievable.
  • A strike did in fact happen in 1919 (Winnipeg General Strike). They demanded a $2000 bonus for each soldier, compensation. However the offer was rejected, as it was deemed unaffordable. The years after the war were tough on the economy.
  • Stellar, need something to get my mind off this.
