- Brian has had many conflicts throughout the story, whether it was versus himself or versus others.
- Man vs Nature
- Brian had many fights with himself. He showed self pity in the book when he would cry about his broken life and the Secret. He struggled with himself when he was landing the plane and even tried to commit suicide when a rescue plane flew over him without noticing him.
- Man vs Society
- Brian experienced man versus man conflict in a couple ways. One way being seeing his mom kiss her ''new friend''. Another being after the pilot had a heart attack Brian struggled to help him, not knowing CPR and he was barely able to touch his chest and later struggled to remove the dead pilots headset.

- Brian has had many encounters with man versus nature He was attacked by mosquitos so much that he said that ''his eyes were swollen shut and his face puffy.He also got attacked by various animals that left his with open wounds, temporary blindness, and even broken ribs. He tried to catch ''fool birds'' and fish and had failed various times, and his home was destroyed by a tornado.
- He had to get back into the normal ways of society after he was isolated in the wild for 50+ days. He was changed and would marvel at the amount and diversity of food all food even food he didn't like. He hated lawyers and judges and blamed them for his broken life. He hated how lawyers would sit with their comfortable smile and explained in legal terms how all that he lived in was coming apart''. he thought '' divorce, an ugly breaking word''.
