The Great Barrier Reef is a link of reefs that create the largest coral reef in the world. It is the breeding ground for over 200 types of birds, including land-dwelling ones.
The GBR is constantly being hurt though. Pollution, coral bleaching, and even coral disease.
Fun Fact: A person who studies coral reefs is a coral reef coral reef biologist.
Sadly, many people are careless and dump waste into the water around the reef. They also break off pieces that they could take home, but that hurts the coral too much.
Luckily, many people are studying this beautiful reef. They are all looking for a way to keep it safe, and to maintain this natural beauty's- well- beauty.
Fun Fact: There are 600 types of hard and soft coral located in the GBR.
