Odysseus- old soldier, “My lords, Contenders for the queen, permit me: a passion in me moves me to speak out.” (Odysseus doesn’t want anyone to know it’s him, so he disguised himself as a beggar so he could participate in silence)
Penelope- watchful queen, (means shes watching quietly at the men)
Telemechus- “Telemachus, true son of King Odysseus” (Odysseus was still king even though he left. Some people betrayed him and disowned him, but not his son.)
Antinuous- ringleader (“Antinous was the ringleader; he whipped us on to do these things. He cared less for a marriage than for the power Cronion has denied him as king of Ithaca. For that he tried to trap your son and would have killed him”) ((Eurymachs to Odysseus)
Eurymechus- “Then he said grimly:...” (Eurymechus knew that Odysseus was there, he was being a smart alec toward him though.)
Eumaeus- “Eumaeus the swineherd” (He herded swine (pigs) and was loyal to Odysseus)
Philoetius- “Philoetius the cowherd (He herded cows and was loyal to Odysseus)
