Ancient Mesopotamian civilization: c. 5000-3500 BC: The first city-states gradually develop in southern Mesopotamia. This is the achievement of the Sumerian people. c. 3500: Writing begins to be developed.
Anu: god of heaven, the firmament. Enlil: god of the air (from Lil = Air); patron deity of Nippur. Enki: god of freshwater, male fertility, and knowledge; patron deity of Eridu. Ereshkigal: goddess of the underworld, Kigal or Irkalla.
Located in the Tigris-Euphrates valley was the land of Mesopotamia. It was here that the world's first cities were founded between 4000 – 3500 BC by the Sumerian people. They developed their own belief system, with a variety of gods and goddesses.
They maade many advances in technology. The wheel, plow, and writing (a system which we call cuneiform).
Mesopotamia was ruled by kings. The kings only ruled a single city though, rather than the entire civilization , like Babylon was ruled by King Hammurabi
What I find interesting about Mesopotamia culture , is that they was polytheistic ,
