  • Battalions: A large body of troops ready for battle, especially an infantry unit forming part of a brigade typically commanded by a lieutenant colonel.
  • Foliage: Plant leaves, collectively.
  • Munitions: Military equipment and supplies, especially bombs, shells, and guns.
  • Book Sentence: More than 350,000 African Americans served in WWI, nearly all in segregated labor battalions. (Page 7)
  • Corroborate: To provide evidence or information that supports something that has been said or reported.
  • Book Sentence: Coming from a farm area, this was really hard on me, to see so little foliage. (Page 21)
  • Prerogative: It is a privilege or a power that only a particular person or group has.
  • The bay was filled with ships and munitions, such as heavy cannons and first aid kits. (Page 37)
