In 1884 Pat turned 22, he is leaving Ireland to go to the United States
They started to leave there country because the crops weren't growing, they were losing there land, and there started to have less and less jobs.
Most emigrates traveled to the United States on a ship. Pat brought clothes to America.
Pat was very unhappy, the travel to America was very hard, the weather was bad and it took a few months to get to America.
Pat arrived in the Ellis Island.
Pat settled in New York City, he was still very poor and because of cultural differences stayed with people who also came from Ireland. One difficulty could be poverty.
