Storyboard Text

  • Literature Allusion
  • Bah humbug!
  • Example
  • I hate Christmas.
  • 5 days 'till Christmas!
  • Explanation
  • Scrooge- Meaning: Main character from 'A Christmas Carol'. He was always grouchy and pretty cold-hearted. Being a scrooge means you are always negative and grumpy towards many things.
  • Mythological Allusion
  • Mr. Ober always hated when kids would get loud and obnoxious outside around Christmas. He would always complain to neighbors and tell kids to go inside and read a book for once. Because of all of this, he gained the nickname of 'Scrooge' around town.
  • Example
  • It's as hot as Hades oh my gosh!
  • The picture and sentence to the right illustrates the allusion by showing how the man was grumpy a lot over something that he shouldn't be that upset over, and how he is just overall a grouchy guy, also known as a 'scrooge'.
  • Explanation
  • Hot as Hades - Meaning: 'Hot as Hades' comes from Hades, the god of the underworld. The underworld was supposedly very hot, which therefor means that the term 'Hot as Hades' means that something is sweltering hot.
  • The lady took one step outside and her face filled with sweat beads. Looking at her daughter, she exclaimed, 'I'm not sure if going for a run is a good idea right now. It's as hot as Hades out here!"
  • The picture and sentences that go with it are illustrating the allusion because it is showing that by the lady saying that it is as hot as Hades as she's already sweating with one step outside, it's extremely hot.
