  • James Madison
  • Impressment and Natives
  • Phase one
  • James Madison came into presidency on March 4th, 1809. James Madison was fed up with the British and asked congress to go to war.
  • Phase Two
  • Impressment was when the British would intercept American ships and force them to fight against the Americans. The British also got the Natives to fight against the Americans.
  • Phase Three
  • There are battles that take place mainly fought by the navy. William Harrison defeats the British and tecumseh.
  • Effects
  • The British burned down the whitehouse and fort McHenry got bombarded for 13 hours straight but still held off the Brits.
  • At the battle of new orleans the Americans were very outnumbered. Andrew Jackson led them to a victory by defeating over 2000 British with only 71 casualties. This makes Jackson a war hero.
  • There were many effects of this war. A main efect was that the Americans couldn't trade with the British so they had to make their own things. This helped spark the industrial revolution because they started to figure things out by using steam for transportation.
