  • Betty will be talking about Galileo Galilei, a revolutionary  renaissance scientist
  • He is a astronomer, physicist, mathematician, philosopher and inventor
  • Galileo was born on February 15, 1562 in Pisa, Italy

  • Mrs. Jonathan's class had been researching famous scientists. Because she was being a bad Betty, Mrs.Jonathan made her present first.
  • I found the four largest moons of Jupiter!!! I'm crying tears of joy.
  • Betty decided to do her presentation on Galileo because she didnt know any other scientist. But he wasnt just a scientist, for he did many other things as well.

  • "Galileo invented the compass, thermometer, and various telescopes that helped him with future discoveries"

  • Galileo died while he was on house arrest on Januray 8, 1642, at the age of 77.
  • "He eventually found Mars' four biggest moons-Io, Callisto, Europa and Ganymede. They were later renamed the Galilean satellites in honor of Galileo himself."
  • "Galileo believed in a heliocentric universe- where the sun was in the middle and the planets rotated around it. Such a view of the universe differed strongly from the beliefs of the Catholic Church at the time and Galileo was forced to withdraw many of his ideas and  spent the final years of his life under house arrest.
