Odysseus and his men arrive on the island of the cyclops. His men want to steal from the owner of the cave, but instead Odysseus talks them out of it while making an offering to the mysterious owner. They act as good guests helping themselves to food and drink.
The cyclops returns to the cave, and after talking to Odysseus, turns down the idea of hospitality. He then asks why they are in his cave. Odysseus says that Poseidon has sunk their ship after sending a storm.
This situation is ironic, considering Poseidon is the father of the Cyclops. After knowing this to be false, the cyclop eats two of Odysseues' men.
Odysseus and his men arrive on the island of Aiaia, while 22 of his men explore the island Eurylochos stands back and watches them get turned to pigs. He then warns Odysseus of the witch Circe.
Odysseus still goes and is then greeted by Hermes. The god gives him advice an herb to eat so he will not get turned to a pig. Once he arrives at Circe's palace, he drinks the poison which has no affect on him.
After seeing the potion has no affect on Odysseus, Circe is astonished. Odysseus then takes the rest of Hermes advice to draw his sword to scare her, and then agree to take her to bed if she vows to not use her magic against him.
