Storyboard Text

  • Statues were torn down while North Vietnam supporters rejoiced in the streets.
  • At home, veterans watched on TV as a country that they bled, fought, and died for was swept away all in one foul swoop.
  • South Vietnamese soldiers abandon their uniforms in an effort to protect themselves after the successful Communist invasion.
  • North Vietnamese troops wash themselves in the palace’s fountain after their victory.
  • The communist leader, Vo Nguyen Giap, celebrated the great victory that he strived for to unite Vietnam as one, as many other of his followers did as well.
  • In the end, Saigon fell to North Vietnam and was eventually renamed Ho Chi Mihn City. The country remains united and communist until present day, but relations between America and Vietnam have reopened. The veterans of Vietnam had the short end of the stick, as when they returned home they were blamed by the public for the war and largely disrespected. Hippie culture in America was ecstatic to hear the news that the war was finally over and it remains prevalent, even to this day.
