  • Francisco Franco was born on December 4, 1892 in a small coastal town in spain. He attended a private catholic school until the age of 12.
  • Civil War Cont.
  • Franco later volunteered to fight an insurgency in Spanish-controlled Morocco. During his time spent here he survived a gunshot wound and was promoted many merit awards. Became the youngest general in Europe.
  • Death
  • Franco was reprimanded for criticizing the actions of those in power. He later led a revolt that left 4000 dead and thousands in prison.
  • Life after Franco
  • Franco later got back in good graces with the government. He hesitated in his support of the military. He later committed and his job was to transport troops to the mainland for the spanish civil war. Named commander his the rebellion. Barcelona and Madrid surrendered in march of 1939.
  • Under Franco's regime the only religion tolerated was catholicism. He did not join World War ll, but sent 50,000 volunteers to fight. As he aged, he avoided politics more and more. He died in November 20, 1975.
  • Before Franco died he had appointed a king to succeed him. Prince Juan Carlos had been appointed king. He later leaglized politics and held the first election.
