  • In the short story "the cask of amontillado" by Edger Allan Poe, Fortunato was killed inside the catacombs by Montresor. He lured Fortunato with the amontillado before leaving him there to rot. Montresor got revenge after countless times being insulted by him.

  • Montresors revenge is justified because many times after being insulted by fortunato.

  • Amontillado? comin right up!
  • Montresor states, "Fortunato had insulted me. So I vowed revenge." (Poe 27) and "Fortunato let loose with several loud, forceful, mad screams." as he was being put there buried alive. (Poe 34)
  • This shows how Fortunato was giving up and showing how much he is suffering not being able to do anything. Montresor was so cruel toward Fortunato showing how he left him there helpless. leaving him there to starve and eventually die.

  • after several times being insulted by Fortunato no doubt Montresor wanted some revenge.
