  • Ships: Sao Gabriel, Sao Rafael, Berrio & supply ship get separated in thick fog
  • Event 3 + Problem
  • They keep sailing and they are only 965 km from south Africa, then on November 4th ( 93 days at sea) they spot land and land in Helena BayVasco sailing around Cape and the weather being stormy big waves and currents. Them arriving in Mossel Bay. 
  • Climax
  • Vasco returns home to Portugal, the weather was bad and it took 3 months to sail back, many men died and therefore they had to burn Sao Rafael. On September 9th, 1499 he returned home with only 50 from 170 men. The king made him rich. 
  • Vasco build a column to claim the land. He destroyed the supply ship . they met natives who greeted them with a party but Vasco didn't trust them so he fired cannons at them
  • Solution + Conclusion
  • Sailed into Mombasa where the sultan wanted to capture Vasco but that didn't happen. Then they sailed into Malinda where the sultan gave him the best pilot:Ibn Majid. After 23 days they sailed into India in a harbour called Calicut. 
  • A sickness called Scurvy appeared and killed many crew members. The ships sailed to a city and named it "Land of the Good people".Then they sailed into an Arab city where Vasco invited the ruler to show him the way to India, but he refused to help and therefor Vasco fired canons at the city. 
  • Vasco had suceded in his mission, he was the first to reach India. Calicut ruler also refused to do a trading market and therefore they attacked Vascos men. Vasco left and had a fight with the Calicut ships but sunk them aswel. 
  • Portugal becomes incharge of India and King III asks Vasco to be the viceroy. He doesn't want to because he is old but doesn't refuse. He goes to India on 1524. But because he was old, he died on December 24th 1524. ( 3 months later) 
  • Back in India, Vasco made a vow to return to Calicut and he did. In 1502, he returned to India and fired cannons at Calicut. He went to the neighbour city Cochin, where the Sultan made a trading market with Portugal and India. He then returned back home with spices and became a hero.
