Storyboard Text

  • quote
  • "She could see now that what she was sitting on was a woodpile next to the furnace. Millicent brushed back a strand of hair. It was stiff and sticky from the egg that they had broken on her head as she knelt blindfolded at the sorority altar a short while before." (bottom of page 1 top of page 2)
  • simile
  • metaphor
  • In the beginning of the story millicent is sitting on a woodpile. While she is on the woodpile she starts her flashback when she wanted to be in the sorority group. "She could see now that what she was sitting on was a woodpile next to the furnace. Millicent brushed back a strand of hair. It was stiff and sticky from the egg that they had broken on her head as she knelt blindfolded at the sorority altar a short while before." (bottom of page 1 top of page 2)
  • symbol
  • "The basement was dark and warm, just like the inside of a sealed jar." (page 1) She is describing how she is feeling inside her basement. This part of the story is after she left the sorority group.
  • character (millicent)
  • "how will I ever do it, go up to those stoney faced who are staring out of the window" this is a metaphor because it is showing that the sparrows are all the same and act the same so they are stoney faced
  • theme
  • The symbols in the story are the heather birds and the sparrows. sparrows are all the same and do what the others do, but heather birds are all individual and they have there own personality. "Outside the sparrows were still chirping" This part of the text shows that they are all the same and they have to be orderly . "Millicent thought of the heather birds swooping carefree over the moors" This is showing the heather birds have different personalities and are not orderly and they do what they want
  • Millicent in the beginning of the story wanted to be like every one in the sorority group because she wanted to be popular but later in the story she started to contemplate whether to join the sorority group. in the end she realized it was better to be herself instead of trying to be like someone else. Millicent is a dynamic character because she changes over the coarse of the story.
  • The theme of the story is individuality because millicent was trying to be someone else in the beginning of the story but at the end she realized that being her self was better for her to do.
