  • Jimmy Blake
  • In stanza 1," Five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt" is an personification because the narrator is giving the tonguages a action that only human can do, which is applauded.
  • Theme and explanation
  • In stanza 7," Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hand with dirt" I said hyperbole because he doesn't mean that literally, the narrator mean that 5,000 people are looking at him.
  • Evidence and Explantion
  • In stanza 3,” As did also Jimmy,... while the latter was a cake” is a metaphor because the narrator is comparing Jimmy Blake with cake.
  • The theme is if you believe in someone about how he/she can achieve their goal, it can boost their confidence to do it.  According to the article, the crowd cheer on Casey, and it make her believe in her self.
  • In Stanza 11," 'Fraud' cried the maddened thousands, and echo answered 'Fraud!'" and "They saw his face grow stern and cold, they saw his muscles strain." This explain the theme because the crowd cheer him on so much that it built confidence in him.
  • Fraud
