In the mid-1800 scientist discovered kerosene, and the demand for oil had risen dramatically.Kerosene was a form form of fuel for light that could be made from petroleum or coal.Most of the time called oil,petroleum is a thick,dark liquid called fossil fules .
The significance of the strike of Spindletop was near Beaumont found under a salt dome at a place called Spindletop Hill,or Big Hill.January-10-1901 was when the big oil strike occurred.
The life in the oil fields was difficult some times because if your oil dyed out then you just lost your business.on the other hand you could produce a money making business like J.S. cullian who owned the Corsicana refinery in Beaumont in 1901 then changed the name to Texaco and it grew rapidly.
