The witches talk of their meeting with Macbeth in the future after "the hurly burly's done" and "when the battle's lost and won". They set the mood for the play.
Duncan is told of the great things Macbeth has done in battle. He is also told that the Thane of Cawdor is a traitor so he gives Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor. He is already the Thane of Glamis.
Macbeth and Banquo meet the witches who tell Macbeth that he'll be the Thane of Glamis, Cawdor and "shalt be King hereafter". He doesn't yet know he's the Thane of Cawdor. They tell Banquo that his sons shall be kings.
"He is too full o' the milk of human kindness"- Lady Macbeth reads Macbeth's letter about the witches and believes he should kill Duncan but is too nice.
Ironically, King Duncan admires the castles beauty and cam pares it to a holy place. Lady Macbeth comes to meet Duncan and Banquo.
Macbeth's conscience in playing on his mind. Lady Macbeth persuades him (more like forces him) to kill Duncan. Macbeth is unsure - "What if we fail?" - Lady Macbeth wants him to do it - "Screw your courage to the sticking point and we'll not fail"
