Storyboard Text

  • Somewhere in the Marpole Community...
  • But don't you think that Ozymandias is like God? I mean in my opinion it seemed so obvious to me after reading Watchmen.
  • A phone conversation is taking place.
  • Caitlin, on her bed, is chatting with her best friend, David, about God and Ozymandias in the novel Watchmen.
  • Even though the outcome was terrible, good always prevails over evil! In the end he did the right thing, to protect the world from all things evil. You feel me, David??
  • Okay Caitlin, I understand where you're coming from, we're both religious after all, you, Catholic, me, Christian. But still, the outcome was not something God would've done.
  • God wouldn't have killed so many people just to make the world a better place, like what Ozymandias did. It's just not "God-like".
  • Their conversation starts intensifying...
  • Plus isn't Dr. Manhattan more like God in the graphic novel? He sees the past, present, and future!
  • NIV Bible
  • That's exactly like God! He sees everything that's happening.
  • Yes, but don't you remember what he did in the Old Testament? Noah's ark? He killed everyone in a huge flood expect for Noah and his family because he wanted to make the world anew as evil was taking control, and it was turning away from him.
  • NRSV Bible: Catholic Edition
  • Besides, he did the same as Ozymandias. He killed for the sake of a better world. Hence good over evil.
  • That's YOUR opinion. MY opinion is that Ozymandias had the same goal as God, to make the world a better place. And that alone gives me enough of a reason to believe he's more like God.
  • Then explain Dr. Manhattan? He's perfect as a symbol for God in my opinion.
