I am Fidel Castro. I was the communist leader of Cuba that got rid of corruption in my government.
I am John F. Kennedy. I was president after Dwight D. Eisenhower, and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I told the CIA to go ahead with an invasion that included American-trained Cubans who would rise up against Castro and throw him out.
The invasion, which happened at the Bay of Pigs, was a complete disaster. Nothing went right. It made the president and the country look idiotic. President Kennedy took full blame, which made his approval ratings soar.
Khrushchev, the leader of Russia, decided to scare the U.S. at this time. Since Russia was allied with Cuba, Khrushchev put missiles on Cuba and aimed them at the U.S.
After several suspenseful days, the Russian ships carrying missiles finally turned around and headed back to their cold homeland. But there was more to come. Russia announced more bomb tests would be done. We wanted a treaty with Russia about this, but since they were starting the tests, we started them back up again as well. After a few weeks, Khrushchev accepted the no-bomb treaty.
Meanwhile, things between communist North and non-communist South Vietnam were getting worse. JFK decided to send help to the South. Soon our first troops, called "advisors", were on the ground. We were spending 1.5 million dollars a day to support this war.
