The majority of people in the north lived in farms. But some lived in cities.
Cities were often crowded and dirty. Not until the after the 1830's were harbors and streets were improved.In about the 1800's about 5 percent of the population lived in cities, but by 1850 nearly 15 percent did.
The south had slaves did a lot of labor work like growing crops including rice, cotton, and corn. That Alabama and Mississippi had.
The owners of the large plantations were incredibly wealthy and lived in luxury. Their Kids usually attended one of the best schools.
The north and the south fought in 1861. The north had approximately 2 million soldiers and the south had only 800 thousand soldiers, which the north won.
