Hi! My name is Yash Patel. I am in grade 10 and I like to do many activities such as play volleyball and frisbee. I also am the grade 10 co-representative in our school's Student Council.
I have volunteered in many places and currently am a part of CPSS's Tech Squad during lunch breaks. Grade 9 was an interesting year for me and the best thing that I liked about it was that I made so many friends. I I could change one thing about last year it would be that I could have studied more for harder subjects so that I would have gotten better results.
I like coming to school because that means I am able to learn exciting new topics and expand my knowledge. I like using technology to learn such as computers and smart devices. In the future I aspire to be either a pharmacist researcher, computer engineer or lawyer. What all these profession have in common is that they all require you to use your critical thinking skills, just like my favorite subject math.
In grade 9 I found math to be a little harder than I had expected and as a result of that I did not do amazingly well during midterms, but I worked hard and pulled up my final grade to an 86%. I found the word problems in the equations unit to be quite difficult as I could not transfer the words to an equation that well. I am good at solving linear systems, working with slopes and lines and trigonometry.
I believe that mathematics is actually very understandable and simple but students, myself included, get intimidated by it and in turn lose self confidence. I expect this year's math course to be similar to last year's in terms of workload, learning pace and overall environment. This year I want to apply myself more and do a lot of practice before major tests so that I am ready and score well.
All in all, I believe that this year's mathematics course will be interesting and teach me great things. I look forward to learning in an encouraging and supportive environment with a great class and teacher!
