Mako was born on the edge of the sea on an island far away in the South Pacific. Everytime he woke up, he spent his time in the water. He was very good at making things with his hands: he made a harpoon that was as straight as an arrow and has five sharpened iron spears at the tip. He also made a canoe out of a tree that he hollowed.
Mako and his dog, Afa, were great best friends, companions, buddies, etc.
Mako's grandfather was telling a story about Tupa, the so called ghost of the lagoon. His grandfather said that he saw Tupa attack three fishermen on a canoe and that the three fishermen were never seen again. Mako pointed out that there was a reward of thirty acres of fine coconut land and a sailing canoe. He also said that he'd love to win the reward. But then his mother came and told him that one of the fishermen was his father. He than sat there in his anguish and wanted to avenge his father.
