Contrast and Contradictions - Dally was explaining how one day Cherry came up to the greasers and started telling about she wanted to help them. Why is the character doing that? Because she feels very bad about what’s been happening and wants to help fix her mistake as much as she can
"She felt that the whole mess was her fault, which it is, and that she'd keep up with what was comin' off with the Socs in the rumble and would testify that the Socs were drunk and looking for a fight and that you fought back in self-defense."
Contrast and Contradictions - Dally was explaining to Pony and Johnny abou how they looked nothing like their descriptions in the newspaper so they were fine but then all a sudden Johnny said ( look at talking bubble ). Why is the character doing this? Because he feels bad about what he has done and he knows that he will have back up to help him through court. And he feels bad form bring Ponyboy with him on this and just doesn't want Ponyboy suffering anymore.
'We're goin' back and turn ourselves in.
Aha Moment - Ponyboy and Johnny were running up to the church and Ponyboy and Johnny realized they had started the fire. How might this change things? They will start to feel bad about starting the fire and wanting to help put it out and do whatever they can to help.
"I bet we started it. We must have dropped a lighted cigarette or something".
