The Fearless vikings
The Vikings took over England and Ireland in search for good farmland. They raided many villages during the raiding season and took everything.
While searching for new lands, there was a terrible storm. It pushed the vikings to Iceland. After news broke out, more than 30,000 vikings moved there.
In about 980 a viking named Erik Thorvaldsson was banned from Iceland for three years. He decided to explore west and later discovered Greenland. Until his three year sentence was up, he explored throughout the land. Erik then returned to Iceland to tell others.
When Erik returned, he stocked up supplies and people into 24 ships. They then sailed to Greenland but only 14 ships made it there. Life was difficult for them there because the soil was bad for growing crops. Bjarni sailed to Greenland looking for his family, but ended up in North America.
Bjarni sailed back to Greenland and put a crew together and sailed 35 ships to North America. They settled in the forest and beaches there. One day, they came across natives and attacked them, but the natives came back and forced them away. After a while more vikings moved back but eventually died out. Nowadays There are still some vikings left in iceland.
