  • Medical lab technologists work to find cures and stop diseases and sicknesses. They analyze bodily fluids to find cures and to diagnose. They study samples for the use in transfusions by identifying the cell numbers, cell morphology or blood group, blood type, and blood compatibility. They operate sophisticated medical equipment such as microscopes and cell counters. The data they find is recorded and shared with other medical lab technologists and physicians.
  • Medical lab technologists need a bachelor’s degree in life science (Bachelor degrees usually take four years to obtain). Some states require laboratory personnel to have a license. Skills such as mental math and having a conceptual understanding are needed and used in this job. On “secure.gacollege411.org” Medical Lab Technologist, Lisa Gurney states that getting a summer job in a laboratory by cleaning tools and doing other small things is helpful and gives you a good idea of how the lab works.
  • The ability to use technology is required. Many sophisticated tools are used in this job. You must be able to follow exact instructions when coming to procedures or operations. Stamina is needed, because in the job you are on your feet a lot and need to carry patients for samples or run around. • This type of work can be found in most cities. Most of the time work will be inside of a controlled lab environment.
  • Without education you couldn't have the job. If you have more education than required, the job will treat you better. Salary typically stays the same unless you are promoted or receive a raise.
  • Good schools to attend are: Navarro College, Santa Monica College, Devry University, and Augusta University.
  • I think I do have the skills for the job and I am confident that the interviewer will give me the job. I have the four year college degree as needed and I am ready .
