The enlightenment was a period of time in the Middle ages and after when most Europeans placed their faith in religion.
John Locke was a enlightenment philosopher who lived from 1632 to 1704.He believed the that the power of a government to rule must come from a consent of a government .He believed that every huma being was born with life political choose who governed them.
Jean-Jacques Rousseau had a similar belief on the state of nature but a different role of goverment.
Baron de Montesquieu called for a complete separation of powers to maintain balance in goverment.
Volitaire had the idea of freedom of speech.He made the speech I disapprove of what you say but to the death your right to say it.
