Beowulf and his men (after killing the monsters) travel back to their home where they greet their king, Higlac. Beowulf then sits down and tells his people all about his victorious battles. He then gives Higd (Higlac's wife) a necklace from Welthow.
50 YEARS LATER.....
50 years have passed, eventually Higlac dies of old age and wants to give Beowulf the throne, he denies because Higlac's son; Herdred was the one who was suppose to get it. Herdred becomes king but dies shortly after. Beowulf then gets the thrown.
In a nearby stone tower, a dragon rested undisturbed, surrounded by all his jewels. Than one day a slave came and stole a jeweled cup to make his master happy, and become free. The dragon awakened later and realized what was stolen from him. He went crazy and starting burning homes down and attacking the villagers.
"Tell our warriors to get ready! I will kill that dragon!"
"My king, there is a dragon on the loose and your the only one who can protect us!"
"Wiglaf, thank you for not leaving. When I die, I want to be cremated and put in a tower on my land so the sailors can see me when they sail by. Please before I die, bring me some of the dragon's treasure."
Beowulf's almighty candle was almost out, he was about to enter an unbroken sleep.
"Your deeds are famous,so stay resolute, my lord, defend your life now with the whole of your strength. I shall stand by you."
Beowulf's body is burned to ashes and put in a monument on his land so he is remembered always. His treasures were sealed in the walls and buried underground his tomb.
In the end each clan on the outlying coasts beyond the whale-road had to yield to him and begin to pay tribute. That was one good king.
