Storyboard Text

  • I will never forget the day I was informed of my mother's death. She was a target of racism and violence dealt to her by three white men. I never wanted anyone to experience racism again.
  • *Sob*
  • You can change the future
  • Daisy Bates, a civil rights activist, brought together black families who were willing to take an incredible risk: sending their kid to an all white school, Central High.
  • Yes. This is as good a time as any.
  • I'm scared for my son!
  • Are you sure about this?
  • OK. I'll do it.
  • September 4th, 1957
  • Go away! You don't belong here!
  • Booooo!
  • No one wants you!
  • The Little Rock Nine and Daisy Bates tried to go inside, but Arkansas' Gov. Orval Faubus ordered the National Guard to prevent the students from entering for "their safety." But really, he just didn't want things to change. And yet, it was more than past time for a change.
  • Later that September...
  • President Eisenhower called in 1000 members of the army to protect the students as they entered the school.
  • Get out of here already!
  • Unfortunately, many of the white students at Central did not approve of the newcomers. They harassed and abused the nine newcomers just because they had a different skin color.
  • Take that!!
  • Hehehehe
  • The hostile white students at Central didn't care that the Little Rock Nine, the name given to the courageous black students integrated at the school, were taking non-violent action.
  • Get them!
