The dragon attacks Beowulf's village because he is angered that the thief has stolen his golden treasure. Beowulf and his eleven warriors are forced to go to battle and fight the dragon. They have to find the thief who has enraged the fiery dragon.
We have found you thief! You have stolen the treasure from the dragon and now you will lead us to the angered dragon’s lair
Beowulf’s men report to him about the location of the thief. Beowulf and his eleven men follow the thief to the dragon’s cave.
Beowulf makes his final boast, remembering that he has won many battles in his youth and even though he is now old, he is going to fight the dragon for the “Glory of winning”.
I can sense that my death is near for this is a battle to the death. This may be the end for me.
Beowulf enters the barrow to fight the dragon alone Beowulf calls a challenge to the dragon and the dragon hears a human voice and charges with flames shooting out its mouth. Beowulf uses his shield to protect himself from being burned to a crisp from the mighty dragon’s breath
Come forth dragon and fight me!
All of Beowulf’s eleven men except for one flee from the dragon. Only Wiglaf sticks by Beowulf during his final battle. Wiglafs shield has been broken by the dragon but Beowulf heroically shares his shield with him. Wiglaf thrust forward and stabs the dragon in the stomach with his knife
The dragon bites Beowulf in the neck and blood gushes. Beowulf uses his knife to penetrate the side of the dragon thus finally killing the dragon. Beowulf’s fatal wound from the fight with the dragon eventually kills Beowulf from losing too much blood.
