- On the 11th of July 1879 Gaston Means was born in Concord,North Carolina on the Blackwelder Spring Plantation to wealthy planter William "The Colonel"Means and socialite Corrallie Bulloch.America's long,proud history of bastards would never be the same.
- While one of three brothers and three sisters,Gaston became known for his charming yet cruel disposition. According to him,his first satisfying experience was stealing money from his mothers purse,and getting the maid fired for the theft.
- After graduating from the University Of North Carolina in 1896 he bounced from job to job becoming a school superintendent in 1900 and a Cannon Mills salesman in 1902.But while he earned 5,000 a year none of these roles were true to his larcenous spirit.Perhaps the closest to it was his "acidentally" falling from a train berthh and sueing Pullman railroad company.
- However in 1914 Means quit his dreary salesman job and joined the Burns Detective Agency in New York,run by William J.Burns.Burns had no intention of running an honest agency and knew that a relentless,immoral man like Gaston would be perfect for the job
- And perfect he was.Gaston proved very skillful at the sleazier aspects of detective work.From taking bribes...
