  • Benjamin O Davis Sr was born in Washington July 1 1877. His parents were Louis Davis who was a govrenment manager and his mom was henrietta Davis which was a nurse. He has 3 other siblings.
  • Benjamin O davis Sr attended the M Street High School, and went on to enter college in 1897 at Howard University. The Spanish-American War was officially declared on April 25, 1898. Davis left school to volunteer for service, joining the 8th U.S. Volunteer Infantry as a First Lieutenant.
  • Benjamin O davis Sr left school. Davis left school to volunteer for service, joining the 8th U.S. Volunteer Infantry as a First Lieutenant. Davis made fast initial progress through the ranks, and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1901. He was assigned to duty in the Philippine Islands, still with the 9th Cavalry, but was then reassigned to the 10th Cavalry and returned with that unit to the U.S. where he served as Adjutant at Fort Washakie, Wyoming
  • Davis Sr married Elnora died from complications after giving birth to their third child (Elnora) in 1916 and three years later Davis Sr. married Sadie Overton, an English professor at Wilberforce University
  • Davis Sr was the first African American General for the U.S army after starting as a volunteer in the Spanish American war. After that he he became a adviser for the military on racial discrimination. He earned a bronze star medal.
  • Benjamin Oliver Davis Sr left the military in 1948. He spent 50 years of serving for our country. Davis died of Leukemia on November 26 1970 . He was married twice and had three children. His son Benjamin O Davis Jr. Is following his father footsteps in the us air force
