  • When are we ever going to be there???
  • We have been on the train forever!
  • I hope me and Mr. Oka can be friends. I don't like his cat.
  • Dearest Yuki, We are doing fine, we hope we csn come soon. Im so lonely here without you. I hope you are doing well. I hope we can see you guys soon! Love, Emi
  • I hope Ken is okay! I hope he comes home soon!
  • Yuki and her mother and her father are on their way home from a consecration camp called Topaz. Yuki's best friend named Emi is still stuck in the concentration, because Emi's grandmother refuses to leave. Yuki wants to return to california.

  • Why is our store on fire? Who did this to us? We did nothing wrong!
  • Yuki meets Mr. Oka and his cat. Mr. Oka is very hard to please and Yuki tries to befriend him. In the church Yuki and Mr. Oka live across from each other.Mr. Oka is quiet and thoughtful. Yuki began to call him Uncle Oka.
  • I'm so glad Ken is finally home!
  • Yuki really wants her brother Ken to come home. He had been fightinng in the war and was injured. She hopes he is okay. Emi finally comes home with her grandmother! She and Emi share a room.
  • Yuki and the rest of her family saved up and spend all of their money to buy a small store. Over night someone set it on fire and their shop was distoryed, along with all their money. The Ollsons invite them over to their house for food. Ken calls and tells Yuki that he is coming home.
  • Ken is finally home just in time for dinner and Yuki is very excited to see him home again. Ken is crippled for the res of his life. He is quiet and hidden. Mr.Oka talks to him and soon Ken is his old self again. He decided to go to college and become a doctor. Yuki is proud of him.
