The Narrator loved the old man, for the old man had never done the Narrator wrong. There was something about the old man that vexed the Narrator, though.
Perhaps it was the old man's eye. A pale blue eye with a white film over it. The vulture eye. The Narrator felt intimidated by the eye. It made him feel nervous, anxcious even.
The Narrator planned to kill the old man. He could finally be rid of that horrid vultures eye.
The Narrator would watch the old man as he slept. He had a lantern in hand and opened it to see if the vulture eye was open. Once it was, he pounced on the old man, pushed the heavy bed over him, and crushed him to death.
The Narrator dismembered the head, arms, and legs in the tub. Then he hid the body under the floor boards. The neighbors called the police because they had heard the scream of the old man.
The police arrived and the Narrator told them that the scream was his own because he had a nightmare. He also said that the old man was in the country. The Narrator was insane and he mistook his nervous heartbeats for the old man's. He thought the police could hear the heartbeat, so he admitted to the crime
