On January 31, 1865 the 13th Amendment was passed freeing all slaves in the US, meaning all men were now truly equal.
Southerners were outraged. Now they had no workers for the plantations and their previous property was now an equal.
You will never be like us white folk!!
Even though they were now free, some slaves didn't know what to do.
Some of the now free slaves went to the North and got factory jobs so they could support their family.
Thank you so much for the job!
Anytime my friend!
Other freed slaves stayed in the South and worked on plantations, but now they weren't whipped, got paid, and were provided with food and shelter.
Now no matter where they went, everyone was happy because they were paid and with their families.
