Mother’s Day Narrative

Use a storyboard to tell a story to your mother in the second person. The “story” can be a simple message, as shown in the example below, or a more complex narrative with a beginning, middle, and end.

Example Mother’s Day Writing Prompts

  • “How did you know how to…?”
  • “Mom, I am sorry for…”
  • “It meant so much to me that you…”
  • “When I was really little, you used to…”
  • “If we were elephants [or other animal]...”
  • “Even though you make me clean my room [or other chore]…”
  • “You make/have/do the best…”

Favorite Memory of Mom

What is your favorite memory of your mother? Create a three- or six-celled storyboard that depicts the memory. Be sure to include titles and description where necessary for clarity. Share with your mom and see if she remembers it too!

Alternatively, create a storyboard that shows what you would like to do with your mother this Mother’s Day! Check out Emily’s storyboard below!

Thanks for All that You Do!

Mother’s Day is a chance for us to show Mom that we really appreciate everything that she does for us. Brainstorm as a group to come up with different ways that Mom helps (or what Mom has to deal with) and decide on what is most important to you. Create a storyboard or comic to thank her!

Mother Roles

Mothers take on many roles. Sometimes, we forget how much moms do for their kids. Have your students think of at least four roles or jobs that their mothers have. These roles should show many different sides to mothers.

A spider map template works very well with this activity because there is less emphasis on ordering than there would be with a list. The Frayer Model template works similarly well, but you are limited to exactly four items.

Pair this activity with a lesson or review of metaphors and poetic language!

Mother’s Day Cards

Another great feature of Storyboard That is creating cards! Use the amazing scenes, characters, and items to make a card that celebrates Mother’s Day.

Card Template Instructions

Create a three-cell storyboard for Mother’s Day. This could be a short story (beginning, middle, and end), a joke, a special message to your mother, or whatever you want!

  • Cell 1 is the front of the card.

  • Cell 2 is the left inside page.

  • Cell 3 is the back of the card.
Mother's Day Card

Storyboards of any layout can be converted into a folding card, but only the first three cells will appear. Titles and descriptions are not printed on the card, so use “Textables” inside the cell if you want to include text.

  1. After you save your storyboard, click "Make a Folding Card" and then click “Mother’s Day”. The right inside page is a pre-written message that you select at this step. Choose the artwork and message that works best for you!

  2. Print out the pop-up image, and fold.
    • Hold the paper so the front of the card is right-side-up in the bottom right corner.
    • Then, fold the paper in half away from you (you should see the back of the card on the left and the front of the card on the right).
    • Fold the paper again so you only see the front.

  3. Don't forget to sign your card!

There you have it! A Storyboard That Mother's Day card perfect for showing Mom how much you care!
