  • Origins of Hundred Years' War
  • The Hundred Years’ War has been used by historians since the beginning of the Nineteenth Century to describe the long conflict that pitted the kings and kingdoms of France and England against each other from 1337 to 1453.
  • Battle of Agincourt
  • The English army landed in France and besieged the port town of Harfleur some 30,000 strong. The siege took its toll, There were a large number of soldiers from the army dying of the Black Death, A strong garrison had to be left to defend the captured port during these times. Crossbows were developed during this period which also helped the English win.
  • Joan went at once to the castle of the Dauphin Charles who was initially uncertain whether to receive her. His counselors gave him conflicting advice; but two days later he granted her an audience. As a test Charles hid himself among his courtiers but Joan quickly detected him. These events led to the Siege of Orleans.

  • The Seige of Orleans was later in the stages of the conflict, The siege represented France's first major victory since the defeat at Agincourt in 1415. Advancing on Orleans in 1428, English forces commenced a loose siege of the city.

  • In 1451, French successfully captured Bordeaux from English control. This victory was considered a decisive end of the Hundred Years’ War but the English still considered it their right to reclaim their mainland territories.
