  • Impact of COVID-19 on Mental Health
  • Many factors of this pandemic have effected us, both physically and psychologically. If I had to talk about psychological changes, I would say that stress, anxiety, and depression are the 3 most common increased mental disorders amongst all. Specific conditions include isolation and loss of income and fear are triggering mental health conditions or exaggerating existing ones. Many people may be facing increased levels of alcohol and drug use, insomnia, fear and worry about you and your loved ones' health, changes in sleep and eating patterns, and mental alterations in kids due to excess screen time.
  • CAN'T SLEEP!!
  • The elderly, people with existing mental/physical diseases, children, teenagers, adolescents, frontline workers, health care providers, doctors, firefighters, police officers, teachers, and people who have chronic diseases (especially lung-related) have gotten majorly affected by the stress of this conflict.
  • Substance abuse is also on the rise in Canada during COVID-19. A recent poll found that 25% of Canadians aged from 35-54 and 21% of those aged 18-34 have increased their alcohol consumption since social distancing and self-isolation due to COVID-19 began.
  • Taking breaks from watching TV/YouTube, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media is a way to cope with stress. Try not to believe in fake news and propaganda! Take care of your body by taking deep breaths, stretching, doing yoga or meditating (like reciting "Waheguru" for 10-15 minutes). You can also try to eat healthy meals, exercise regularly, and get plenty of sleep with a disciplined schedule.
  • Make time to unwind by trying to do some other activities or hobbies you enjoy. Connect with others by talking to people you trust about your concerns, issues, or doubts.
