Текст на Статията

  • From Tojo's perspective, Japan was a great power that deserved its place among the world's leading nations. He believed in Japan's ability to become the dominant power in East Asia and saw the country's expansion as a way to achieve that goal. Tojo saw the United States as a rival that sought to prevent Japan from achieving its rightful place in the world. He saw the Japanese people as a chosen race that had a duty to lead the other Asian peoples to prosperity.
  • Tojo's Perspective
  • Tojo also believed that Japan's military expansion was necessary for its survival. He saw Japan as a resource-poor country that needed to expand its territory. Tojo was a nationalist who believed in Japan's superiority and its right to dominate other countries in Asia. He thought the war was a noble struggle to defend Japan's interests and achieve its destiny as a great power. He saw himself as a patriot and a hero who was willing to sacrifice everything for the good of his country.
  • The Rising of Tojo
  • As Tojo climbed the ranks of the army he grew to dislike western culture. He helped write a book about Japan becoming a totalitarian state because he believed that’s what had won Japan the Russian war and wanted to prepare for the inevitable WW2. He became very nationalistic and militaristic.
  • He was appointed the chief of staff of the Kwangtung Army in 1937 and helped lead attacks into northern China. On October 25 1941 he was appointed Prime Minister of Japan by Emperor Hirohito. Emperor Hirohito chose Tojo because of his strong militaristic ideas and he would follow any order by the Emperor.
  • Why Tojo was important to society
  • Tojo was not a totalitarian leader since Japan was still an Empire and Tojo was under Emperor Hirohito's control. There was also a law that prevented a leader from gaining total control over Japan. Tojo was a strong supporter of the Tripartite Pact between Nazi Germany, and Facist Italy. This gave Japan military assistance but also made Japan an enemy to most nations.
  • The Prime Minister before Tojo had left Japan in a war between China which was partly the reason for Tojo and his party deciding to attack Pearl Harbour. The Emperor and Tojo thought that if they didnt attack the US first they would attack instead. So on December 7 1941 Japan bombed Pearl Harbour and consequently was at war with the US, England and the Netherlands
