On August 10 1901, two English women, Anne Moberly (right) and Eleanor Jourdain  (left) took a trip to  France. While they were there, they visited the Palace of Versailles. Soon after, they got lost after missing the turn for the main avenue of the palace and entered a lane, where they had bypassed their destination. The pair was confused as they saw many odd things whilst trying to seek help from the locals but ignored it anyway, thinking it was just their imagination.
 A few minutes passed and out of nowhere, Moberly and Jourdain felt the atmosphere changing. Everything suddenly looked unnatural, unpleasant. The trees seemed to become flat and lifeless, as wood worked in tapestry. There were no effects of light and shade, and no wind stirred the trees. At this point, they described a feeling of oppression and dreariness coming over them.
Though confused and lost, both women were eager to find out what was happening so they kept on walking. Anne noticed a lady sketching in a hut. She was described as wearing a light summer dress and a shady white hat. At first sight, she looked like a tourist but her dress appeared to be old-fashioned. This made Anne believe that the lady was Maria Antoinette, the queen of France dating back in 1792.
