- Bud finishes his meal and the others tell him to wash the pots and pans with a girl named Deza Malone. They talk about where their from and their family until Deza gets a little touchy. Bud and Deza end up having their first kiss while washing the dishes. (Chapter 8)
- Bud gets up late to jump on the train. He and the others rush to get their things to make it in time. Just as they thought they made it, the police arrive and shut the village down. (Chapter 8)
- FOOD!!!
- My...My..My...
- Bud is once again on the lam! He walks from Hooversville to the mission just in time to eat. After eating, he heads to the library determined to get to Grand Rapids. Once he gets there, he asks the lady for paper and and a pencil to measure the distance between the two cities. (Chapter 9)
- Goodmorning
- Just in the midst of the trip, Bud hides in the bushes as a car approaches. Just as he thought the coast was clear, the car comes back. The person gets out of the car and calls out for Bud, but he doesn't answer. The person bribes Bud with food and Bud eventually comes out. (Chapter 10)
- Bud takes the food Lefty Lewis gives him. Lefty Lewis askes Bud some questions while Bud eats. He eats his apple until he gets thirsty. The dude leaves some serious backwash! (Chapter 10)
- Bud is still asleep when the daughter of Lefty Lewis tries to wake him up. She examines Bud's face and legs and wonders where all his scars and bites are from. She tries to wake him up again but this time she used the food trick. Bud wakes up in a jiffy, says goodmorning and heads downstairs for breakfast. (Chapter 11)
