Tupac Amaru II and his wife Micaela Bastidas lead a rebellion against the European-born Crown officials in 1780 because of the abuses against indigenous people in Peru. There was no support amongst the ruling class because of rebels attacking Spaniard houses, decreasing their chances of having allies.

Tupac Amaru II united Quechua speaking people and Bolivian rebels, strengthening resistance against Spanish colonial rule. Despite initial success, the rebellion collapsed in 1781.Tupac and Bastidas (wife) were turned into the Spanish Authorities in Cuzco, Peru.

After their capture, Tupac Amaru II and his family were sentenced to death for leading the rebellion. The execution was brutal, with Tupac Amaru II being forced to watch, the youngest son was spared but sent to prison in Spain. Despite their deaths, the rebellion continued to more years under Tupac's relatives and son. The rebellion was unsuccessful but inspired waves of rebellion against colonial rule in Peru, they gained their independence in 1821.
