Numitor was the king of Alba Longa. He had 3 sons who would claim the throne after his death. But Amulius (Numitor's brother) wanted the throne all to himself, so he killed the boys. Amulius then became the new ruler and locked his niece in a tower, intending for her to become a nun so she wouldn't have children. If she did have kids, then they could overthrow him.
