We are now in the Savanna. The Savanna is located near the equator and is the largest in the world. It covers almost half of Africa and receives 50 inches of rain per year. During the winter season the grass turns brown and grass fires occur. The biggest threat to the African Savanna is the increasing number of people. The increasing population has put pressure on people to open more farmland and ranching.

The Sahel is located South of the Sahara. The Sahel has a tropical semi-arid climate meaning it is typically hot, sunny dry, and windy all year long. Rainfall in the Sahel varies from year to year ranging from 6-20 inches. Desertification and soil erosion are problems in the Sahel. Overfarming, overgrazing, and overpopulation have some damaged areas in the Sahel and has led to famine.
