  • I had a dream about the three witches.
  • Banquo has a dream about the three witches and the 3 prophecies which seemed to be coming true. Macbeth suddenly doesn't believe in all these witches. Shakespeare characterises him as very twisted type of character as he suddenly changes but at the same time he is thinking about the witches and lying to Banquo.

  • Is this a dagger which I see before me, The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.
  • Macbeth is in imagination seeing a dagger that came out of nowhere. It seems the time has come as Shakespeare foreshadows the death of King Duncan is soon.

  • How dare you to bring the murder weapon out of his room. I will do it myself Give me That!
  • Shakespeare has characterised Lady Macbeth as evil and powerful. It seems like now she is becoming a leader as first she was just known as his wife, but now the evilness is taking over and she is shown as very cunning.

  • As we notice, Macbeth is already starting to feel guilty after committing a sin. He is sorry for killing King Duncan. Shakespeare characterize Lady Macbeth showing no guilt at all after his husband committing a crime.

  • I can't believe my father has been murdered. We shall leave
  • Awake! Murder has taken place, everyone leave to safer place
  • Macduff enters the scene, he finds out that King Duncan has been murdered and the murder is on the loose, therefore he takes care of everyone and tell them to leave to a safer place. Shakespeare characterizes Macduff as hero in this scene as he takes care of the King's sons.

  • Everything has changed, it is no longer the same.
  • Shakespeare ends the Act with Ross and Old man that discuss the atmosphere is changing. The weather must be bright and sunny but it is still dark. Shakespeare ends this Act with dark theme type of ending.
