  • On March 10, 1971 The 26th Amendment unanimously passed in the senate. All 94 senators voted in favor of the voting age being lowered to 18-years-old. (History.com-2021)

  • Then, on March 23rd 1917, 401 representatives voted for the voting age to be lowered to 18-years-old and only 19 apposed the change. (archives.gov-2021)
  • Back Then, That Enabled 11 Million People To Vote

  • And finally, on July 1st 1971, the 26th amendment reached the necessary 3/4 ratification, with 38 stated ratifying the 26th amendment. It took just 100 days to reach the necessary 3/4 ratification! (archives.gov-2021)
  • Nowadays, It Enables Around 77 Million People To Vote
  • Yay! We can all vote!
  • “On July 5, 1971,President Richard Nixon formally certified the 26th Amendment of the Constitution, which granted 18-year-olds the right to vote.” (History.com-2021)
  • Back then, that enabled over 11 million people to vote, over which half did. In the next election (November 7th, 1972) five and a half million people 18, 19, and 20 years old, voted!
  • Yay! We can all now vote!
  • Nowadays, this enables around 77 million people to vote. Of which around 53.5% or 39 million do! Around 39 million adults ages 18, 19, and 20 voted last year in the 2020 election! That is one of the highest young voter rates ever!
