Hika repeated the slaughter at Te Totara,the Ngati Mary fortress near Thames.
- In 1825, the Ngapuhi iwi struck again. The target this time were the NgatiWhatua, with the battle being fought at Kaiwaka. Despite the Ngati Whatuaiwi having 1000 men, they were no match for the blood-thirsty Ngapuhi.After being crushed by the Ngapuhi, the Ngati Whatua iwi abandoned the isthmus and decided to live in exile, under Apiwai Te Kawau's (their leader) orders.
